COLNEY HEATH SCOUT GROUP

PART OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

Colney Heath Scout Group has played a very active and important role in the community of Colney Heath Parish for nearly sixty years. For the last forty of these, the Scouts have enjoyed offering opportunities and adventure to thousands of young people and their families from their base in Roestock Park, Colney Heath, St Albans, Herts.

Scout HQ built and paid for by the local community

The Scout hut in Colney Heath was built by the local Scout and Guide community, for the local community over 40 years ago. All the money to build the HQ was raised by the Scouts, Guides, leaders and supporters of the Group who also organised and fully managed the building of the facility.

The HQ is situated on land that is owned by St Albans District Council who sublet it to the Parish Council in Colney Heath for a nominal peppercorn rent. Part of the condition of the lease is that the ground must be used for community purpose.

Financially independent

The Scout Group has always been financially independent and there has never been any financial liability to the Parish Council. Through a successful fundraising campaign the Group has raised over £30k to make the necessary repairs to the Scout HQ.
